Congregational Garden
Serve within the church
All are invited to come on out to the garden to help, no previous experience is required. Bring gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, a hat and water to replenish and we will meet you by the shed with instructions.
In the last 9 years the garden has provided 223,500 pounds of fresh vegetables. Last year we supported 9 area food pantries as well as our own Community Meal. Our hope is to provide the same or slightly more than last year’s total of 25,600 pounds.
This year we are planning to grow several varieties of zucchini, tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers and pumpkins. We also will grow winter squash, yellow squash, and brussel sprouts. Oops, can’t forget the cucumbers.
The main tasks are (weather permitting):
• plant seeds in the greenhouse – April
• deploy the irrigation system – May
• repair or modify the irrigation systems- May
• transplant young plants into the garden – late May, early June
• place tomato cages around young tomato plants - June
• weed, weed, weed – on and ever going
• rototilling – June thru September
• weed, weed, weed – on and ever going
• harvesting – late July through September
